WHAT HAS HALEY BEEN UP TO..

ABOUT:

Instagram has been robbing people of all ages about unrealistic expectations. Through mind numbing scrolling, we only see the 'cream of the crop' kind of influencers with their luxurious lifestyles and seemingly perfect figures. This has created a rising number in body dysmorphia cases. As an artist, I want to relay the message that what we see in the mirror is still beautiful. You can pick, tug, and cry over unwanted blemishes and fat deposits, but at the end of the day, your body is still carrying you through 24 hours of living each day. We must appreciate it in all shapes and sizes.

PROCESS:

To get started, I'm simply practicing the free flowing movement that charcoal on newsprint provides. I have to be able to draw all sorts of bodies in different proportions and angles.

Next I'll come up with poses based on what it is people often notice their insecurity. Thighs: When sitting down. Belly fat: Looking in a mirror. Acne: Covering it up with makeup. Breast size: looking at fashion magazines. And so on..

END RESULTS:

I'd like to create 10 images with common and uncommon insecurities that show both how outsiders view it, and the main character's [your] view.
